Blogging is a huge part of the Internet. Over 150 million strong, and growing each day. There a number of different blogs out there, some pretty popular, and some that are pretty successful considering the revenue they bring in. Maybe you are already on the Internet, and maybe you aren’t.

If you have been thinking of getting a blog, here are the top ten reasons that you should.

10. To Express Thoughts

One of the most obvious reasons to start a blog is to share your thoughts. This can be anything really – your thoughts on politics, the latest movie to hit the box office, a favorite recipe, or whatever your interests are. Blogs started off as a way to keep a virtual diary, and that initial purpose is still a good one. This is a great way to let out some steam, or show your creative side a little bit more to your network of friends, family, and followers.

9. You Are Unemployed

That might seem a little harsh. However, blogging gives you the perfect opportunity to do something constructive, and learn a lot in the process. This is very prevalent for stay at home moms or students working hard to get through school, and even just for people who have extended periods of free time. Nowadays you can virtually blog from anywhere, as long s you have some Internet access. All it takes is a few paragraphs for you to start making something you can call your own.

8. You Are a Compelling Writer

There are a lot of people out there with amazing writing talent. Not everyone has the time to write a book, or even moderately put their writing to good use. This is where blogging can really expand your creativity. Being a great writer doesn’t come easy, and people appreciate someone that can captivate them through words. If you have amazing writing skills, and have a passion for a certain something, blogging might be your best outlet.

7. You Have Inside Knowledge

If you have some sort of inside knowledge, you can be sure that you will have a following of some kind. A classic example of this is Matt Cutts. He works at Google and often gives in depth knowledge of SEO, algorithmic updates, link building services, and many more related topics. He has a huge following, and gives good advice to help people rank better in the SERP’s. Having an inside edge, is a great reason to start a blog, just make sure not to give too many secrets away.

6. Gain Feedback, Learn from Others

Many of us have a number of strong opinions. Having a blog allows you to find people who share the same views, and discuss topics you are interested in. Blogging let’s you get comments, emails, and responses to your ideas to see how well they a sticking in people’s minds. Or maybe, you need to rethink your position on something – blogging gives you that insight.

5. Make Some Money

At the end of the day we all need a little bit of money to get by. Blogging is a great way to earn some extra bucks. And hey, if your blog is good enough it could even become a full time gig. There are a million and one ways to make money off of the Internet. The first step you need to take is creating some great content that attracts traffic each month. Money and blogging go hand in hand these days.

4. It’s Fun

Blogs started off as a fun way to vent ideas, opinions, and give people reference tools. Before social networks, they were the unofficial way to communicate throughout the web, and show others what you are digging into when you surf the Internet. Blogging isn’t complicated at all, especially with various templates that can be set up in minutes. Have fun, and be heard.

3. Help Others

Maybe you have a particular success story. Maybe you now how to make a good business. Maybe you are a cancer survivor. What ever the case, blogs are helping people in many ways. First they are a great way to share some advice with your traffic. Inspiring people with your stories can be a great way to help put someone that is in a slump, and blogging can handle all of this. You can even share a particular skill that you have, and help others with theirs.

2. Build Relationships, Networking

Blogging is one of the best ways to build relationships on the Internet. Fellow bloggers usually have no problem linking up with you, and you could even meet some new friends in the process. This isn’t just limited to other bloggers. You may find yourself networking with your readers as well. Blogging provides a common ground for people to stand on, and in turn creates great networking while building relationships online.

Perhaps you already have a website, or an online business. A great way to get more feedback, and have a greater presence is to start a blog. Great business blogging allows for potential customers to put a face behind your company or brand. You also can treat each blog as a potential a dvertisement or sales pitch, to help attract customers. This keeps your site lively, new, and in turn makes people more likely to come back for seconds.

    I think number 1 “Strengthen your online business” is important not just to put a face behind your company but it also adds valuable new content to your website. Search engines love new content and it is a great way to drive additional visitors to your site.
