3 Ways Moms Can Fight The Work From Home Blues
The internet has afforded us the real opportunity to spend time at home with our families and also earn an income via a work from home arrangement. Whether you’re a freelance writer, web designer, programmer or something similar the web has enabled us all to create a living from the comfort of our home offices.
However there are certain drawbacks to working from home such as isolation, time management issues and not knowing when to stop and take a break. If this describes you, below we highlight three ways that moms (or anyone) can fight the work from home blues.
1. Join A Gym
Aside from getting you out of the home, this idea serves a dual purpose. You get several benefits from joining a gym such as meeting new people, working your heart out (literally) and not sitting for an hour or so. Most of us that work from home also sit a lot and this has been proven recently to be worse than standing all day or just about anything else. So anytime you can stand and move around as opposed to sitting down is something to seriously think about. This option could also be loads of fun because many gyms have a swimming pool, tennis courts, a walking/running track, racquetball court and so on. Find a friend or two to go with and even more fun awaits.
2. Try A Local Meetup
Have you heard of or ever been to a meetup? The website Meetup.com has been around for some years now, but it has picked up quite a lot of steam recently from bloggers for it’s WordPress meet ups. There’s one in just about every city and state now and come in a variety of flavors and sizes. I just recently attended a local WordPress meetup in Chicago and met a very nice dynamic group of bloggers, designers and others interested in WordPress. Find one close to you and see what’s on offer, you might meet a great friend in the process.
3. Starbucks, Your New BFF –
This is what many work at home moms tell me they do or want to do to get away for a bit and mix and mingle with other moms. The good thing about Starbucks is that there’s one in every corner and is only a few bucks worth of an expense. For less than $15 and sometimes less than ten bucks you can sit and enjoy an excellent cup of Joe, chat with some funny ladies and take a nice breather. Great way to fight the work at home blues once or twice a week.
There you have it. Three great and relatively inexpensive ways to get out of the house, talk to others and get a nice break from your heavy workload at home. Jump in and tell me what you do to unwind from your work at home day? Or what makes you get through it on a daily basis.
Missy knows that if she doesn’t step away from her computer once in a while every single day, her health will take a tumble and she will need to start looking at life insurance quotes. So she’s tuning out, moving about and getting herself to the nearest Starbucks, attending the next WordPress meetup and joining her local gym.
