Sadly, like many professional fields, writing is an industry still dominated by men. Not that women aren’t represented (we’ve come a long way since the days of Mary Ann Evans, aka George Eliot) we just run the risk that whatever we write, no matter how radical or risque, it will be classified under the stereotypical title of ‘chic-lit’.

But times are changing. The Internet and its blogosphere is offering an open and unrestricted means by which women and men alike are able to express themselves with the written word. And we’re not afraid to use it.

In honour of women and their web based writing, Tennessee’s capital Nashville plays host to the seventh annual BlissDom this February; a conference come celebration designed to bring women who write together.

If you’re not convinced that you should attend BlissDom this year, here’s ten great reasons why you should:

10. You’ll get to meet the stars of female blogging fame

Just imagine; those brilliant bloggers who you’ve read and revelled in their every word for years – you’ll finally be able to meet them!

Yes, you might have commented on their blog, and they’ve probably replied. You might even have shared a Tweet or two. Yet this is nothing compared to meeting them in the flesh and finding out what they’re really like without the shield of a carefully edited blog.

9. You’ll get to meet celebrities of the other kind

Yes, BlissDom isn’t just for the superstar’s of the blogging realm, celebrities from other walks of life have been known to attend too! Local musicians Michelle Branch and Mat Kearney are two past talents that arguably single-handedly made the conference a not-to-be-missed date for your diary.

8. You’ll talk to new people

BlissDom is renowned for attracting the brightest talents and friendliest faces around, thus making the conference a fantastic opportunity to build those all important connections and, if you’re lucky, one or two lifelong friendships.

7. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know

.. And the right people to know are all at BlissDom. If you want an exclusive writing opportunity or the chance to work on a new TV show, BlissDom may just hold the secret to your big break.

6. You’ll be inspired and encouraged

If you’ve ever had one of those days when you’ve wondered why you’re blogging and if you should just give it all up to start a knitting business, fear not: the talents at BlissDom know all the right things to say to get you back on track and to help you find a whole new love for yourself and your blog.

5. You can grow your readership

Needless to say, when you’re at the conference you’ll spend a great deal of time talking to people about your blog, and many of those are likely to head home and try out your writing for size.

4. You’ll find new blogs to read

Yes, you too will talk to flocks of women, just as fabulous as yourself, who will tell you all about the weird and wonderful words that line the pages of their blogs.

3. You can form a blog alliance

If you’re not in one already, BlissDom is a fantastic place to form, or become part of, an online blog alliance.

This is where like-minded women come together to share ideas and offer support – almost like having your own miniature BlissDom convention in your very own home!

2. You’ll fill your brain with knowledge

Whether it’s new ways to market your blogs, or new ideas to write about, there is certainly no better place to expand you mind than a BilssDom convention.

And the number one reason?

1. It’s just lots of fun!

BlissDom isn’t all about reading, writing and note-taking; this frenzy of intelligent, independent and forward thinking women certainly know how to have fun too!
